Dr. Zaffar Ali is a highly regarded and accomplished physician who has been practicing Psychiatry for 25 years and specializes in providing neuromodulatory treatments (ECT and rTMS) as well as Psychopharmacology and Psychotherapy. He currently serves as Chief of Psychiatry at the Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond, VA and is a senior partner at Insight Physicians with whom he has been affiliated for more than 10 years.

Dr. Ali is a native of India where he grew up and went to medical school in the city of Bengaluru. He finished his first residency in Psychiatry at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences as well as getting Board Certified by the National Board of Examiners in India. His second stint of training was completed at the Harvard Medical School Psychiatry Residency Training Program (South Shore) in 2005. He has since served with distinction in prestigious institutions including as Professor at Mount Sinai Medical School in New York city, on the board of organizations like Virginia Care partners, the Medical Executive board at John Randolph Medical Center, and the Chippenham Medical Centre where he also functioned as Chief of Psychiatry.

Over the years Dr. Ali has participated in multiple research projects, published manuscripts, as well as been a member of many professional organizations including American Mensa, The American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology, The Serotonin Society, and the American Psychiatric Association. He is happily married and lives with his wife of more than 20 years in Richmond She is an independently practicing dentist and they have a daughter in middle school.
